Celebration, a Recipe, Hurricane and a Thank You

Interesting day, July 24th.  It is National Tequila Day!

BTW, you do not have to drink tequila to enjoy tequila. Try this recipe:

Beat together in a medium sized bowl a few tablespoons of fresh lime juice, +/- a shot of tequila, a tablespoon or two of olive oil, a sprinkle of garlic salt along with a touch of cumin, and black pepper. Pour this interesting mix into a large resealable zip-lock bag; add-in about a pound of shrimp or perhaps some fish, seal bag and turn to coat evenly. Refrigerate about 2 hours and then grill it all on your BBQ.

In June there were many posts on tequila.  Hopefully, this helped to provide an understanding of tequila, it’s history, production, tastes, and options. July 24th is the American version of National Tequila Day.  That is different than the official National Tequila Day in Mexico which occurs on the third Saturday of every March.

Some say National Tequila Day is “a day of love for a labor of love”.  It does take quite an effort and many years to produce the needed blue agave let alone produce it.  This is particularly the case if the process is accomplished in a traditional fashion.  So, here is a salute to the labor of love. Wanted to wish you a wonderful July 24th.  Eat well.  Be safe. Drink responsibly.  If you are drinking tequila, don’t be afraid to have a designated driver, Uber, Lyft, or cab to help you get home safely.

On a slightly different note, another labor of love is dealing with this pandemic and now a hurricane is approaching. Keeping everyone safe is important. We can do this. Children, parents, staff, neighbors, friends, and visitors. Keeping businesses open and accessible is also an ongoing effort.  In fact, this entire year seems to be an historic and extraordinary challenge. Stay strong.

Regarding Hurricane Douglas: The National Hurricane Center recently noted a gradual weakening is expected to begin on Friday (24 July 2020) and continue through the weekend.  But… Douglas is forecast to be near hurricane strength when it approaches the Hawaiian Islands on Sunday.  We shall see.  Prepare.  As of 11PM HST, Douglas is about 1000 miles ESE of Hilo and moving toward Hawaii at about 18mph.

Thursday 11PM - 23 July 2020

There have been many changes and adjustments for everyone as this virus situation plays-out. Combined with a new storm threat, this period could cause some to become even more anxious. Understandable. Let’s stick together and help one another. Meanwhile, wanted to thank everyone for their support, flexibility, and patience.

Stay strong.
