National This . . . Or Global That? Ask the Swedes.

October 4th is “National Taco Day”.  No, it’s not the day that tacos revolted and claimed their independence from quesadillas. No, there was no military coup. No, a long cultural battle of good vs. evil did not occur. It’s just a day to savor and celebrate one of the more popular foods known to mankind.

The Pollis Fish Taco Plate is a great choice. Rumor has it there will also be some shrimp tacos floating around!

How many tacos are eaten each year? Difficult to estimate as we have not completed the census (you did see that question, right?) Globally... one estimate is 4.5 billion tacos a year. Personally, that seems like a high number as there are “only” 7.7 billion people on earth. Let us just say lots and lots of tacos.

What country eats the most tacos per-capita?  Sweden.  Go figure. Seems they have a weekly “Taco Friday” habit. Fredagsmys, or “Cozy Friday”, is a popular Swedish tradition. In the Scandinavian country, families stay home on Friday night, watch TV, and eat Tex-Mex-style tacos. This dinner choice is so common that, for most Swedes, the so called Cozy Friday is also know as Taco Fredag, in English … Taco Friday.

Polli’s will be savoring and celebrating tacos all week. So will most of mankind across most nations. Come and celebrate with either takeout or seated dining.

Oh… you don’t have to be Swedish and it does not need to be Friday. You just have to love great tacos.
